Background

I received a Masters from the MIT Media Laboratory in 2007 as a member of the Speech + Mobility Group. I received a BA in Architecture from Princeton in 1999, writing a thesis on Buckminster Fuller.

I'm co-founder of a VoIP teleconferencing startup, vSpace. The founder is my master's thesis reader, Bill Gardner, Ph.D.

Now I work at the Harvard Library Laboratory. At the Lab we're creating tools to help users discover new information. We're also trying to push what libraries do, and what they mean to people.

Consulting

User Experience:
I specialize in helping groups design and implement clear and enjoyable online interactions. More specifically:

  • bringing simplicity

  • clarifying metaphors based on research

Browsing Strategy:
Google's pretty well figured out the search problem. I design experiences to help users wayfind, explore and discover within large landscapes of choice. I most rely on two strategies:

  • building context and relationships

  • coaxing each element to speak for itself
